Hey, I forgot to say thanks for telling me about the 9/18/87 show. I was late for work cause I couldn't turn off Sugaree. I was listening to Jerry's solo and was just blown away. Very awesome stuff. Peace.

You need the frontend flac in order for the site your on to be able to download. There is no "download" button like you want there to be. Google flac frontend and you'll find one. Just install it on your machine, then the site will be able to download it. But don't forget where you installed the program 'cause after you download the flac files you use the flac program to decode them to wav files.

I know this sounds like a lot of steps but it keeps the integrity of the sound.

Hey and don't feel bad. I just figured the crap out a couple of weeks ago - I had a kind of AHA moment and it all just clicked.

Here's the link I used to get the frontend ( I don't even know the name of it, i just use it.

http://members.home.nl/w.speek/flac.htm

Copy that into the address bar of Internet Explorer. There is a "download" button for that.

I understand how confusing it is so let me know if you need more help.

I live in Mississippi so I really don't have much to do. :P

Hey DeadMax: taking the plunge (converting SHN to WAV or MP3): do I need both FLAC frontend 1.7 (30 kb, freeware)
and FLAC codec to do this?

Sorry for repetitive requests from a techno moron...

Scratch that request...Trader's Little Helper to the rescue!

Thanks all!

Amazing! Done...I am now listening to my own, 'handmade' lossless version of the 13 Oct 68 show--I can indeed appreciate the difference.

Thanks for the help.

Dire: given your high praise, I had to give this one a serious listen (again, I haven't listened to much of anything post 85, hardly a song much less a complete show). Although Jerry can't sing as well (who could?) as during the period I obsess over in 69-70, he does have a solid presence this night. And his guitar work is very good in a number of songs. I must say that Bob & Brent put me off a bit--I never liked the change in Bob's singing style post 75 or so, nor did I come to appreciate Brent's (though accepting he might have the best voice technically speaking).

So, bottom line--thanks; I can defn see the appeal here. Any other 85-95 shows you rank close to this one?

There's usually a link that say "Download" I'm looking at this and it's like playing with a iMac, I'm even more lost than usual.

Nope, no client. I wasn't even aware of that, but I find it to be ok just as long as I can still listen to all the wonderful stuff on the archive.

once you get a client it's a breeze, google utorrent and download,it's free.follow the direction and forward your port,go back to shn/flac and register and your on your way, grad a show with lots of seeders and hit the floppy disc looking thing to download.just share back what you downloaded by leaving your seed open e.g.9-11-73 1gb down, upload 1gb or more back, lots of folks to help you out at shn/flac.
